.308 Winchester

.308 Winchester was introduced in 1952 by the company Winchester and was marketed mostly to the commercial hunting community. Winchester’s Model 70,88, and 100 (all of which are chambered in .308 Winchester) are attributed to the early success of this cartridge. Over the years since then,  .308 Winchester has become the most popular big-game hunting/short-action cartridges in the world. .308 Winchester is commonly used for target shooting, metallic silhouette, palma, metal matches, military sniping, police sharp shooting, rest target shooting, and hunting.

Having a short case in comparison to other rifle cartridges, .308 Winchester is very well-adapted for short-action rifles. When loaded with a bullet that fragments, tumbles, or expands .308 Winchester is capable of high terminal performance. .308 Winchester has a a cartridge case capacity of 3.64ml (56.0 Grains). A lot of thought went into the design of the .308 Winchester case, this is because Winchester wanted a very reliable feed and extraction in both bolt-action and semi/full automatic platforms even under extreme conditions. .308 Winchester has a SAAMI maximum pressure rating of 62,000 psi. When used in hunting conditions .308 Winchester is is commonly used for deer, pronghorn, caribou, black bears, brown bears, and grizzly bears.
