.45 ACP

.45 ACP (other times referred to as .45. .45 Rimless Smokeless, .45 Auto. Colt, 45 AC, S.A. 45-inch, 11.43x23mm, 11.43, 11 .25mm, 11mm) was made by John Moses Browning in 1904. One of the main reasons this design came to be was in hopes of achieving more stopping power from a pistol cartridge. Although most NATO militaries have retired the .45 ACP, the effectiveness of this cartridge has maintained popularity amongst sport shooters and reloaders around the world.

The standard military load for a .45 ACP is a 230 grain bullet that travels approximately 830 feet per second when fired from a M1911A1. .45 ACP generates low pressure ratings of around 21,000 psi. That means in theory less wear and tear on your firearm, this is ideal for shooters who have concern about the longevity of their firearm and firearm parts. .45 ACP also has great popularity amongst shooters lucky enough to own a suppressor. The low pressures associated with .45 ACP is useful in suppressed firearms becomes it eliminates the sonic boom. Unlike many of the other pistol calibers, .45 ACP is found in both small and large primers which gives reloaders another option to consider when experimenting with different loads.

.45 ACP comes in a huge variety of bullet weights making is highly adaptable depending on the circumstances. .45 ACP bullets are available in 68 grains (usually a specialty bullet if under 100 grains), and up 300 grains on the high end.

When it comes to performance .45 ACP stands out when compared to other common pistol calibers. This is credited to the stopping power, low chamber pressure, low muzzle blast/flash, and snappy but completely manageable recoil. The .45 ACP cartridge is the perfect fit for shooters who are looking for a hard-hitting cartridge, and not so much concerned with factors like weight, cartridge size, and capacity.
